Tablet Pilot Projects at Framingham State University: Three Use Cases
Framingham State University has embraced the use of tablets in the library and in the classroom. In collaboration with the Educational Technology Office, the curriculum library and reference department are supporting three pilot projects in their second year: e-textbooks and iPad/Android apps for two biology courses, a small scale iPad lending program for the education students, and the use of iPads and apps within reference. The presenters will share lessons learned from each project.
Presenters: Kim Cochrane, Curriculum Librarian, Millie Gonzalez, Reference and Electronic Resources Librarian, and Clair Waterbury, Instructional Technologist
Mobile Devices at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine
The library staff at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington has been working closely with the School of Medicine since 2002 to help support and provide resources for mobile devices. All second year medical students are required to purchase a mobile device such as a smart phone or iPod for use in their problem based learning classes. It is also used by these students during their third year clinical rotations. Evelyn Morgen is the Library Director who worked with faculty to design the mobile program. Jessica Kilham, MLS, is a reference librarian at the Health Center library who has been teaching students and faculty to use licensed mobile resources. The program is very successful and has increased the visibility of the library, the library staff, and the library’s resources.
