CLA 2019 Annual Young Adult's Section Meeting

Join for a day full of author talk, publisher previews, teen programming and more!

Special Guest Speaker: Jerry Craft, author and illustrator of "New Kid"

Registration:     $40 members/$50 non-members before 11/01/19. Price increases $10 for members and non-members after 11/01/2019

                          Last day of registration is 11/09/2019


Schedule of Events

9:00 – 9:30 Official CLA Member Meeting to discuss Young Adult initiatives and a change in the section bylaws - All CLA members are welcome to attend and vote!

9:30 – 10:00 Registration, Coffee & Networking

10:00 – 10:15 Welcome & a quick word from our CLA Representative

10:15 – 10:30 Kymberlee Powe will present on the State Library and YALSA Update

10:30 – 12:00 Breakout Sessions

  1.       Farmington Library Makerspace tour and demonstrations
  2.       Farmington Library Studio tour and demonstrations 
  3.       Board Games with Anna Boisvert (Farmington Public Library):  Anna will be explaining her successful game night and will run a game of One Night
  4.       Dungeons & Dragons with Mary Richardson (Cragin Memorial Library): Mary will discuss running a D&D club and resources for librarians
  5.       Culinary Literacy with Samantha Connell (New Canaan Library): Sam will share YA food programming ideas and why culinary literacy offers unique ways for teens to engage and learn. 

12:00 – 1:00 LUNCH

1:00 – 2:00 Author talk with Jerry Craft: Jerry Craft is an award-winning author and illustrator. His latest graphic novel, New Kid, is a New York Times bestseller that has won numerous accolades and was a Harvey Award nominee for best children’s book of the year. 

2:00 – 3:00 Transforming Teen Services: A Training the Trainer Approach with Kymberlee Powe (State Library). YALSA’s latest initiative is to train or retrain teen librarians with focuses on Connected Learning, Computer Science and Computational Thinking. Kymberlee will be presenting the first of many training programs to come to CT.

3:00 -3:15 Afternoon Break Coffee and Dessert

3:15 -4:30 Publisher Preview and Galley Giveaway with Disney, Sourcebooks, Scholastic, Workman and SoHo Press – Make sure to bring your tote bags to carry out the pile you’re going to be getting!
