Update Your Genealogy Toolkit: An Overview of State Library and Commercial DNA Resources

More people than ever are looking to trace their family roots. Because there are also more resources available than ever before, trying to figure out what resources to use as well as how to use them is a challenge. Participants will learn about both traditional State Library resources and the newest commercial DNA testing tools on the market.


Program Agenda

9:30 - 10:00  Registration/Light Refreshments

10:00 - 11:05  Presentation: Materials and Services Available through the History & Genealogy Unit of the CT State Library. The presentation will include information on using town vital records, accessing databases and using state archives.

11:05 - 11:10  Break 

11:10 - 12:15  Presentation: Popular DNA Tools & Techniques. Explore challenges and successes in the modern world of genealogy.

12:15 - 12:30 Wrap up; Surveys 



Gerald Seagrave, Librarian, Connecticut State Library

Mr. Seagrave has been a Librarian at the Connecticut Department of Children and Families, the Police Officer Standards and Training Council and, most recently, the Connecticut State Library.


Jennifer Zinck, Genealogist 

Ms. Zinck is a professional genealogist who specializes in Connecticut research and DNA for genealogy. Jennifer is currently serving her second term as the President of the Connecticut Professional Genealogist Council. Jennifer enjoys sharing her passion for family history with all ages, from school children to seniors.
